Lawai'a Lures, named after the Hawaiian word for 'Fisherman,' are custom handcrafted fishing lures meticulously created by Chris Barrick in Los Barriles, Baja California Sur, Mexico. Each lure is a one-of-a-kind, handcrafted piece of artwork. Chris grew up in San Diego, California, and Los Barriles, BCS, and began making lures in the mid-1970s. He is a true waterman, having spent his life in aquatic pursuits, including surfing, diving, ocean lifeguarding, lifelong fishing, and captaining fishing charters. He now resides full-time in Baja California, Mexico.
Throughout his life, Chris has fished predominantly in Southern California, Mexico, Hawaii, and Central America. His lures are the result of decades spent on the water, observing the ocean, the game fish he pursues, and the traditional cultures deeply connected to fishing. He has evolved from casting molded lures to crafting hand-turned exotic hardwood lures, meticulously weighted and tuned to swim gracefully and naturally. They are not only beautiful and unique but also incredibly effective at catching fish.

Most pelagic game fish target bait featuring a combination of blue, green, brown, and yellow hues. You'll find these predominant colors meticulously integrated into his lures. While the majority of his lures are designed for trolling and are suitable for a wide range of pelagic species, he also crafts casting surface (popper) and sub-surface (darting/swimming) lures.
